Leading sustainable green growth through international forestry cooperation and overseas forest resource development
KOFPI was designated as an institute carrying out overseas forest resources development and international forestry cooperation projects in accordance with the Enforcement Decree of the Overseas Agriculture and Forest Resources Development and Cooperation Act in March 2010. It is fulfilling the role of an expert institute in overseas forests.
KOFPI is pioneering the exploration and implementation of international forestry cooperation projects, response to climate change in relation to overseas forests, and nurturing of future overseas forestry experts, for the purpose of promoting national interest and enhancing national prestige. Likewise, by supporting private overseas afforestation companies in order to secure long-term stable overseas forest resources, KOFPI is contributing to sustainable green growth.

International Forestry Cooperation and Response to Climate Change
By exploring cooperation projects with mutual forestry cooperation parties and ODA projects, KOFPI is contributing to the supply of advanced Korean forestry technology and improvement of forestry environments in developing countries.
In addition, KOFPI is responding to climate change in relation to forestry by implementing the REDD+ demonstration project for use in Korea's greenhouse gas reduction target and sustainable development of forests in developing countries and the human anti-desertification reforestation support project to reduce damage due to yellow dust.

KOFPI is operating an overseas forestry training program for university students in Korea who are studying forestry to experience overseas projects directly. It is also commissioned to operate the overseas forestry internship project that provides on-site work experience and employment opportunities through job experience at overseas afforestation companies and international forestry institutes. Moreover, KOFPI provides an opportunity for adolescents to participate in the International Youth Forestry Competition held in Russia every year.
In addition, KOFPI provides scholarships for MA and PhD at domestic universities as well as invitational training to spread Korea's forest restoration experience and forest management techniques to forestry civil servants from developing countries, strengthening international forestry cooperation networks and fostering overseas human resources capable of supporting Korea's overseas projects.
